Dear reader,
Welcome to 2022’s fourth quarterly newsletter, in which we look back at the latest developments at Eurojust and offer a review of recent reports, press releases and other interesting materials.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
First however, I want to highlight our 2022’s record workload of 11,544 cases, which confirms the upward trend in investigations we support. Compared to 2021 (10,105), this is a 14% increase and we thank prosecutors and investigative judges across the continent for their everyday trust in Eurojust. One of the crime phenomena we are increasingly called on in recent years concerns money laundering, as evidenced by October’s Eurojust Report on Money Laundering to which you will find the link in this newsletter.
In addition to our operational work, we have had an autumn season with many high-level meetings. Among them was the visit of the Slovak Prime Minister, Mr Eduard Heger, who visited us in November to learn more about Eurojust’s work in support of investigations into alleged core international crimes in Ukraine. From a more operational viewpoint, Eurojust hosted in October its largest meeting ever of prosecutors specialised in tackling migrant smuggling and continues to be central in prosecutors' efforts for coordination.
Also in this newsletter, you will find more detail about some of the main investigations Eurojust supported in the past quarter, including the disruption of a massive investment fraud with hundreds of thousands of victims worldwide. And last but surely not least, let me invite you to take a closer look at some of our new publications, such as our first Eurojust Report on the Transfer of Proceedings in the European Union and the Eurojust Report on Money Laundering.
